Korea Racing Authority (KRA) launches an international competition for the design of a Horse Park in Yeongcheon, Korea. This one stage project competition in accordance with the UNESCO-UIA regulations has been approved by the UIA.

KRA intends to develop ona1,474,883㎡ site “LetsRun Park Yeongcheon“, a theme parkabout horses incorporating a racetrack that will hopefully become a local attraction. Its goal and purpose is to improve the overall image of horse racing and contribute to the horse industry, become tourist destination and attraction that enriches the local economy, and bearing a profit, provide an exemplary model for theme park development. The development concept of the theme park is “Unplugged Horse Utopia”

OBJECTIVES

•Design a theme park about horses that provides a consistent story and blends horses, nature, and the local history and culture.

•Design the racecourse to be one of the theme park’s various attractions, setting it apart from other racecourses in Korea.

•The theme park should be able to operate on profit from the theme park alone, not including profits from the races. Design the theme park so that profit and public interest are complementary.

•Design unique and creative contents to make this a one-of-a-kind global theme park about horses.

PARTICIPATION
The competition is open to professionals in architecture, theme park design, landscape design, tourism, marketing, or other fields can enter. A team can have up to five members and must include at least one licensed architect.

ELIGIBILITY

•Any professionals in architecture, theme park design, landscape design, tourism, marketing, or other fields can enter. In the case of joint application, a team can have up to five(5, individual or corporate) members.

•The team must include at least one licensed architect whose license should be current and valid at the time of registration. The copy of license should be provided with other submission documents.

•A juror, a member of the advisory committee, a member of the technical committee or a member of the company or organization that these people belong to cannot enter.

The winning entries and prizes are as follows:
· First Prize: Design contract
· Second Prize (One entry): KRW 40 million
· Third Prize (One entry): KRW 20 million
· Honourable Mention (Eight entries): KRW 5 million each

REGISTRATION

•An entrant can download the competition guideline and pay the registration fee after creating an account on the website.

•The registration fee can be paid by credit card or by wire transfer to the bank account posted on the website.

•The remitter shall pay all the charges related to the wire transfer. The exact amount must be remitted in either Korean Won or USD.

•Wire transfer should be made under the name of the team representative.

•Entrants can check the registration status by logging in the website. Once registration is complete, entrants can download reference materials and post queries.
•Once registered, the entrant cannot change the team representative although he/she can add, delete or change team members. To change the team representative, the entrant must close their account and register a new one. In this instance, the previous registration fee is non-refundable.

•The registration fee is USD 100(KRW 100,000).

SUBMISSION

•Only one submission per entrant is allowed. The works can be submitted by one of the options below.

•Hand Delivery
– Period : February 15, 2016, 10:00 ~ 17:00(Korean Local Time)
– Address : Korean Artist Center #915, Mock-dong 923-6, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, Korea

•Post Delivery

  • –  Postmark Deadline : February 14, 2016 (Local Time of Entrant’s Country)
  • –  Arrival Period : February 15, 2016 ~ February 18, 2016 (Korean Local Time)
    – All deliveries must be made only within the delivery period stated above, otherwise, it will not be accepted.

– The date and postmark must be visible and legible.
– In order to avoid taxes or delay in delivery, the package should be clearly marked as “No Commercial Value”.

•Digital Delivery

– Period : February 14, 2016, 10:00 ~ February 15, 2016, 17:00 (Korean Local Time) – Entrants can upload their submission to the competition homepage within the period of digital delivery.
– We are not responsible for any problems regarding the upload within two hours from the deadline due to possible heavy traffic. We recommend entrants to finish their uploading two hours prior to the deadline.
– We print all submitted files in the required format at a secure place and deliver them to the place of evaluation.
– Please check other information including the printing fees on the homepage before you proceed.

INTERNATIONAL JURY
The international jury consists of seven members:  three architects, one landscape architect, two professionals from theme park, and one from marketing. The list of will be announced by the middle of December.
