Mario Cucinella, appointed by MIBACT as curator of the Italian Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, is willing to launch a call for projects -both completed and under development- related with the subject “Arcipelago Italia”. The core of the proposal is the creation of a dynamic lab whose actions are focused on the urban space of the internal areas, exemplification of the identity of our country for both scale and historical-cultural stratification.

The objective is to identify practical examples that showcase the role of contemporary architecture in settlements that are quite far from big urban centres and from the dynamics of the metropolitan cities; settlements that are often perceived as marginal, but that have the potential to play a central role between future needs and the historical layering of the landscape.

The deadline to take part to the selection, whose procedure is described below, is: 10th of July 2017, 12:00 PM

During the first phase, the candidates will be asked to identify their work in accordance with the following four categories (multiple choices up to two categories are allowed).

ABITARE (live): architectural interventions that emphasise the harmony between human and natural elements, essential condition for the resilience of the surrounding territory.

CONNETTERE (connect): infrastructures and networks that link the urban centres and improve the accessibility to potentially isolated places, guaranteeing the provision of basic services.

CONDIVIDERE (share): works that have a direct impact on the social life of a specific place, improving its quality and increasing the appeal towards possible future inhabitants.

PROGREDIRE (progress): works that are able to create virtuous connections with the local productive sectors, enhancing the wellbeing and the development of the community with an innovative approach that supports and amplifies the value of the tradition.
