In today’s crowded world, the aspect of finding comfortable seating in a public arena is a major part of one’s daily activities. A comfortable seating in public helps one relax and reduce fatigue. This social activity, however, may vary with each individual and the kind of space he/she occupies. Most importantly, the nature of the seat ought to cater to every individual irrespective of their age, size or gender.
The act of seating is an opportunity for many to boost inter-personal communication and encourage social and cultural bonding between individuals.
Over the last few years, public spaces offering avenues to sit, relax and strike a conversation with fellow people have drastically reduced, sparking an urgent need for alternative methods of creating personal seating arrangements. It’s imperative that the seat is ideated with the utmost sense of creativity and innovation. Recreating a seat that goes by every individual’s preference and fits within its spatial limitations poses a challenge to our generation.
THE CHALLENGE
We invite designers, architects, students, teachers, engineers, artists and everyone to create that one seat that can be carried and used anywhere and everywhere.
The designed product has to be inventive and easy to use for all age groups. The seat must also be adaptable to different ergonomic needs experienced by the targeted user in his/her daily routine.
The seat footprint should not exceed an area of 1 sq.ft. The product can be folded, twisted or bent but must fit within the given size specifications.
The participants are required to understand and analyze the various human scenarios and functions in order to design a product that will be indispensable for these needs.

Prizes of total USD 3000, broken down as follows:
1st Prize: USD 1500 + Certificate + Trophies + Publication
2nd Prize: USD 1000 + Certificate+ Trophies + Publication
3rd Prize: USD 500 + Certificate+ Trophies + Publication
10 Honourable mentions: Certificates
Winners and honorable mentions will be published on Volume Zero website and several international architecture and design magazines.

ELIGIBILITY
Pocket Seat Design Competition is open to all. We invite architects, students, engineers, product designers, thinkers, companies, organizations, and everyone interested in the mission of the competition to submit their ideas. No professional qualifications are necessary.
