Results | 2030 Academic Library Winners

The academic library is traditionally a place for students to do research to study and ultimately to learn. However, the digital surge had a big impact on the library’s purpose and use, which demands a new approach for future design. We need a shift from traditional libraries, creating a program based on components (i.e. books, tablets, chairs, computers etc.) to create a library designed around spaces to foster creativity, collaboration, connection and fun education, in addition to accommodating different studying styles from the most serious activities to the fun loud ones.

The challenge here is to create a space for music for the deaf whereby with the use of technology music is not just heard but also felt. A space here through the means of sensory stimulation music is made more accessible. The design need not be a formal space but a more accessible and well-equipped space where music and theatre can be experienced by all. You must consider the different sensory experiences that are related to sound and how they are experienced by both individuals with hearing and those without.

Public toilets are a vital part of public health that fosters liveability in the city. Toilets are one of the most important public spaces.
Public toilets have become a design issue all over developed & developing countries. ‘Toilet’ is treated off limit when it comes to architectural experimentation and innovation. This competition is an attempt to open the doors to discuss the type of space a designer would advise for public use. Artuminate launched this competition aiming to experiment with new, sustainable, and innovative solutions not only for aesthetics but also for the technological aspects of toilets.

Results | Kaira Looro 2022 Competition

The ‘Kaira Looro’ international architecture competition, held by humanitarian organisation Balouo Salo, has this year also, established itself as one of the most important in the field of humanitarian and development design, attracting students and young architects from all over the world. The objective of this edition was to select a humanitarian architecture aimed at hosting activities to combat child malnutrition in an area of Sub-Saharan Africa and donate the entire proceeds to charity. The project proposals were selected by a panel of internationally renowned architects and firms.
