Building on the success of our first international competition, the Dupont Underground is launching a second competition: Re-Think Dupont Circle. One of the key public spaces in Pierre Charles L’Enfant’s famous urban plan for the nations capital, Dupont Circle was not built out until the late 19th century and has not seen a significant redesign since the 1940’s when the automobile was ascendant. We feel it’s well past time to rethink Dupont Circle as a social, human-centered, public space. (more…)

The construction of the monastery dates back to the 12th century. In the following centuries the place experienced a great splendor until in 1348, due to the plague, it began a slow decline. Between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the monastery was enlarged but, with the suppression of the monastic orders wanted by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1807, the structure was again abandoned. The competition aims to reconfigure the exterior of the monastery through an architecture capable of giving continuity to the story. The museum, and its park, will have to configure the existing area, enhancing the place and proposing a new identity. Rooms for conferences, didactic laboratories and exhibition spaces will constitute the endowments of a building for culture that becomes an ideal bridge between the eras. (more…)

Milan is among the liveliest metropolises in Europe: fashion and design are the sectors that make it the main business center in Italy. The identity of the city is legible by observing the skyline dominated by imposing skyscrapers: the Velasca tower, the Pirelli building and the Vertical garden are some of the architectures that embody the progressive attitude of the city. A vertical propensity that began in the 14th century with work on the Duomo, a recognized symbol in the world that boasts around 3,500 sculptures and a spire that exceeds 100 meters in height. The neighborhoods around draw a heterogeneous and constantly changing scenario; the Ticino district, near the Navigli, a place known for social life, is the site chosen to imagine a building that best interprets the neighborhood’s lifestyle.
