2021 the 1st Shanghai • Bund Cultural & Product International Design Competition aims to promote creativities exchange and transformation by combining universities, research institutes and matured manufacturing resources in the Yangtze River Delta, and help establishing “Shanghai International City of Design” and “Shanghai International City of Fashion “.
“New Decade, New Needs, New Ideas”
Exotic building clusters in the Bund of Shanghai, located on the west bank of the Huangpu River, is a microcosm of Shanghai for a century. It is presenting the most classical, as well as the most fashionable side of Shanghai. The new and the old collide and blend here, and at the same time it connects Shanghai’s past and future.
2020 is an uneasy year, we have to re-examine our lifestyle in the front of the traditional and emerging global challenges. At the beginning of the “new decade“, participants need to gain insights into people’s “new needs” for a better life, and propose your “new ideas” in an innovative way.
COMPTITION REQUIREMENTS
Participants need to incorporate any relevant elements of the ” Exotic building clusters in the Bund of Shanghai ” into the design (these elements can be tangible or intangible, and participants are free to propose their own perceptions), while reflecting on the theme “New Decade, New Needs, New Ideas“. The entries can be souvenirs, toys, stationery, tableware, home furnishings, clothing, business customization and other creative products. The single product price is recommended not to be higher than ¥200 (as a reference for product size and complexity). Each participant/team can submit at most 3 entries. Students, designers and amateurs from all kinds of professional design fields are welcome!

1st Place: 1 entry x ¥20,000
2nd Place: 2 entries x ¥5,000
3rd Place: 3 entries x ¥3,000
honorable mention: 20 entries (Certification + Publication)
Finalist: 50 entries (Certification + Publication)

2. Exhibition
On site exhibition of outstanding entries (specific arrangements will be notified by the committee)
3. IP incubation
- This competition will unite the government, universities, research institutions and matured manufacturing in the Yangtze River Delta to transform ideas with market potential. The selected entries of this competition will have opportunity to enter the design development and mass production sessions. An authorization letter and cooperation agreement will be signed between the organizer and designers, who will enjoy a corresponding proportion of sales dividends.
- All participants will have opportunity to enter The Bund Design Community, and have priority in obtaining a new round of IP incubation and internal product testing opportunities.
JURIES & CRITERIA
The Juries are composed of professors, senior designers, experts from co-organizers, marketing and manufacturing. Entries will be evaluated in these five aspects: conceptual innovation, technical feasibility, cost control, environmental sustainability, market potential.
