Language: French

Prizes: Please see the details below

The Biome competition invites the French students to imagine, in a selection of small and medium-sized towns in the Grand-Est region, an architectural, urban or landscape project capable of bringing together city and nature. Faced with global issues related to global warming, how can we imagine resilient urban complexes?

Problem
A biome (from the Greek bios, bio = life), also called macro-ecosystem, ecozone or ecoregion, designates a set of ecosystems characteristic of a biogeographical area and named from the vegetation and animal species that predominate there and are adapted to it.

Greening cities is a major challenge in the face of climate change and its impacts on our living spaces. The city, by its density, amplifies the effects linked to climate change. Renaturation solutions can help mitigate these effects by acting in particular on health, biodiversity and generally on improving the quality of life.

The Biome competition invites you to imagine, in a selection of small and medium-sized towns in the Grand-Est region, an architectural, urban or landscape project capable of bringing together city and nature. Faced with global issues related to global warming, how can we imagine resilient urban complexes?

The Biome competition offers you the opportunity to create a dialogue between utopia and reality with the aim of rewarding innovative ideas demonstrating that nature is a source of renewal for urban spaces.

Examples of issues:

  • How to renature the hearts of towns and the hearts of blocks?
  • What place for biodiversity in urban spaces?
  • What solutions to fight against the sealing of soils in urban areas?
  • How to manage rainwater in the face of soil sealing?
  • Which urban developments to bring nature and human activity into dialogue?
  • How to reduce heat island effects in urban areas?
