We want to celebrate cetaceans in the Mediterranean, especially within the Pelagos Sanctuary, a protected area between France, Italy, and Monaco. Home to many marine species, including Fin and Sperm whales, this region’s cetaceans face threats from human activities.
Our project merges marine conservation with art by installing a submerged sculpture off the coast of France, creating a free, publicly accessible underwater art exhibit. This immersive experience allows visitors to appreciate the beauty of marine life, learn about the challenges cetaceans face, and discover ways to contribute to their protection.
We need you to design the sculpture in digital 3D format!
Objectives:
– Showcase the beauty and vulnerability of Mediterranean cetaceans
– Foster appreciation for marine life
– Raise awareness of the risks cetaceans face.
Design brief:
Target audience: Visitors to the beach (including children), swimmers, snorkelers. The priority should therefore be how the sculpture looks from above looking down.
Location: Le Pradet, France.
Water depth: 4-6 metres.
Sculpture dimensions: Max occupied space should be 5×20 metres. Maximum 2 metre height.
Safety: Avoid sharp edges or small gaps where humans or marine animals could get caught.
Animation/video: Encouraged but not required (images of the sculpture from different angles are sufficient).
