TerraViva launches EASDALE FERRY OFFICE, a new architecture competition focused on the renovation and extension of the existing small ferry hub which connects this unique Scottish island to the mainland.
Prizes up to 7.000 € will be awarded to the winners selected by an international jury panel composed, among others, by Stephen Roberts (Northumbria University), Kefei Yan (Foster + Partners), Maria Alejandra Icaza P. (Luis Pons Design Lab) and Christian Schmitt (German University in Cairo).
BRIEF
The competition requires to focus on the renovation and extension of the small ferry hub which connects this unique Scottish island to the mainland.
The existing ferryman’s office and passenger waiting room are quaint architectures located near the island’s edge: the first buildings to greet visitors and islanders as they disembark. There is an opportunity to renovate the current structures, which are already at the end of their lifespan, with new shelters that celebrate and capitalise on this unique natural context.
PRIZES & MENTIONS
• 1st Prize: 3.000€
• 2nd Prize: 1.000€
• 3rd Prize: 500€
• 10 Golden Mentions: 250€ each
• 10 Honorable Mentions: coupon for a free competition
• 30 Finalists: published on TerraViva channels
GUIDELINES
The new spaces would not only provide a refuge from harsh weather conditions but they would also offer suitable amenities for the residents and visitors of Easdale. By integrating thoughtful design and sustainable practices, the project could enhance the experience of arriving on the island, while meeting the practical needs of the local community.
There are no limits on the size of the extension, so it will be entirely up to the designers to understand and propose suitable solutions for this project.
It will be crucial to consider appropriate material selection and construction techniques due to Easdale’s limited access and the challenges that this endearing landscape poses. Beyond the practical aspects, mate-riality will also be essential to ensure that the new extension integrates properly into the context.
REQUESTED MATERIAL
