The Circle invites the creative young architects to apply for the second edition of the Emerging Architects Selection & Exhibition, the first of which was organized in 2019. The Emerging Architects Selection & Exhibition, held every two years, aims to increase the national and international recognition of young architects under 40 and also intends to create an up-to-date archive on architecture.
The new version of GEMSS is designed to be more inclusive, pluralistic and international. GEMSS’21 which is open to individual architects and teams who have produced a work with an architectural, intellectual, scientific, artistic or social dimension that contributes to the architectural culture, sets out from the idea that all alternative practices are valuable and emphasizes the diversity of the ways in which architecture is practised. The selection committee of GEMSS’21 consists of architects, academics, artists and construction industry professionals. The second edition of GEMSS will be carried out as a hybrid activity on both physical and online platforms and in addition to exhibition, it will be supported by a program of panels, talks, online publications and a selection book.GEMSS’21 program will start with an Open Call on July 7 2021, and will continue in The Circle and on digital platforms with events extending throughout 2022. After the exhibition in The Circle’s physical space, the GEMSS’21 exhibition will be moved to different locations in Turkey and abroad.
Eligibility
- It is possible to apply individually or as a team. In team applications one of the members should be designated as the team representative in order to lead the communication with The Circle.
- Individual participants and at least one of the team members must have a bachelor’s degree in architecture from a university in Turkey or abroad.
- Individual participants must not be older than 40 and the average age of participants applying as a team must not exceed 40.
- All individual applicants and teams must have created / completed at least one work that fulfils the requirements explained in the next chapter.
