FAB FEST is a week-long celebration of design and making, hosted by the Fabrication Lab at the University of Westminster. For the third year running, it invites creative designers from around the world to envision and build their ideas about architecture and the city. It will feature over 80 pavilions and installations designed internationally, manufactured in the Fabrication Lab, and assembled and installed in Central London.

FAB FEST challenges creative minds to imagine and realise architectural concepts for the cities of tomorrow. We live in a complex and rapidly changing world in which the digital is now ubiquitous. Our personal, social and professional lives are increasingly mediated by digital technologies, and as architects and designers, we have unprecedented opportunities through computational design, robotic fabrication, the internet of things and interactivity.

This year we ask designers to reflect on and offer creative responses to the contemporary digital condition. Proposals might push the boundaries for the digital production of architecture, or engage with wider aspects of how the digital affects our architecture, cities and daily lives. The challenge is to propose a compelling and engaging proposal for a pavilion or installation to explore and manifest your ideas. What does the Digital City mean to you?

Teams of designers have one month to propose and submit a Concept Design. Successful applicants will then have two months to develop their ideas to be built as 1-1 pavilions or installations. The Fabrication Lab will manufacture all the components using lightweight recyclable materials and supply them flat-packed ready for assembly and installation in our Central London venue in the week of the competition. Prizes for the best entries from around the World will be award by our guest judges at a Prize-giving on the evening of Friday 6th July.
