Competition Overview:
MARCH launches The MARCH Materials Architecture Competition, which seeks outstanding built projects. The international competition calls for projects of any type that use sustainable materials.Sustainability is a journey. Even small steps matter: we encourage projects that blend both traditional and sustainable materials. The competition is open to architects and interior architects based in Europe+UK and limited to projects located in Europe+UK.
The goal of the competition is to highlight the ability of architects to implement local and sustainable materials in outstanding architectural projects.
Unlike other competitions – where the competition ends after the prize announcement – participants become part of MARCH. MARCH is a visual sourcing engine where architects, designers, and clients come to get inspired and source materials through built projects.
During the competition we will select projects that will be showcased on MARCH, FOR LIFE. By submitting your project, you are not only creating exposure for your company. You are becoming part of a movement making sustainable construction easy and accessible.
Eligibility criteria:
The competition is open to architecture and interior architecture studios, from all over Europe+UK. Participants can enter the competition with projects located in Europe+UK that have already been constructed. The projects can be of any type and size.
How to enter:
Entrants are required to fill in the submission form here. Through our submission form, participants submit a brief description of their project and specify building materials used in their project. Please make sure to add at least 5 materials* to your project to make your submission valid. Materials should be assigned to one (or more) of our material categories: bio-based, biodegradable, circular or local. Participants can submit multiple projects without additional fees.
*Unless fewer make up 75% of the building.
After filling in the form, participants will receive an email outlining how to pay the fee to finalise their submission.
Material categories:
– BIO-BASED Examples: Bamboo, cork, wool, hemp, flax/linen, straw, earth, clay, timber
– BIODEGRADABLE Examples: Natural fibers, bioplastics, mycelium, biobased resins
– CIRCULAR Examples: Recycled steel, reused windows, reclaimed bricks, recycled plastic
– LOCAL Examples: Regional stone, clay, timber from nearby forests, locally made bricks
Judging criteria:
Submissions will be judged based on design and materials. For materials specifically, we judge on sustainability (specified in the form). Participants specify a minimum of 5 materials* in our 4 categories: local, circular, bio-based or biodegradable. *Unless fewer make up 75% of the building.
There is however, no limit to the amount of materials specified in one project.
The design, materials and their sustainability will be judged by our jury of experts.
The jury panel supports progress, not perfection. Projects with both traditional and sustainable materials are welcome.
About the organiser:
