London seems to be stuck in a continuous housing crisis with fewer housing units being built every year. The sale of local authority housing stock under the ‘Right to Buy’

In our second architecture competition series, mOOOarch embarks on a Grand Tour: we will bring you to different cities but explore the same theme. We launched our first mOOO2 competition in the UK capital — London — we challenge architects to confront the complexity facing our public spaces today. Let’s start by asking who owns public spaces today?

Introduction
In contemporary cities, communal spaces are being sold to public bodies or developers, resulting in them becoming the primary makers of modern cities. An ownership transformation has been giving rise to privately owned public spaces (Pops).

As a growing phenomenon, Pops has generated debates around its functions and definitions. A new type of spaces with limitless potential yet demonised by architecture news media.

Therefore, we encourage all designers to study this particular interest and curate your own Pops from over 50 such spaces in London, UK. Finally, We ask participants to insert one part of their proposals at newly completed Coal Drops Yard, King’s Cross, London.
