YAC – Young Architects Competitions – announces the winners of Sport Citadel, a competition of ideas that was launched last June in order to design a multifunction sport center near Turin.
There was a total cash prize of € 20,000 to reward to the winner projects: the 1st prize of € 10,000 has been awarded to the Turkish team “SLASHArchitects”, the 2nd prize of € 4,000 to the Italian team “Omnia Tre” and the 3rd prize of € 2,000 to the Turkish team “zaas”. The 4 Gold Mentions, of € 1,000 each, have been assigned to the Italian team “Ctrl+Alt+Canc”, to the Yale Student team ‘JafariGaoDuJung’, to the Spanish team “COBO ARCHITECTURE” and to the Brazilian team “Z”. 10 Honorable Mentions and 38 Finalist Mentions follow up as the completion of this huge and international podium.
1st PRIZE
Team SLASHArchitects: İpek Baycan, Şule Ertürk, Nergis Kahraman, Marco Maria Nicola Giudicianni
One of the initial concepts that give the project its name was to create zones of compact facilities yet always combining them with rings and create a great flow of accessibility. The rings are created both for car and pedestrian routes also enabling cycling and running path access. The zones are defined by running paths that go around them which also shapes the buildings borders. The flow of human access have been the main motivation in designing this huge site. The division of the two main sites that is given in the competition is united with both road ring and recreation ring (the green belt).
2nd PRIZE
Team Omnia Tre: Flavio Vasoli, Luca Ofria
The real challenge of this project is to create a new model of sports city, where large commercial spaces and sports are combined. The concept is to establish an architectural a dialogue and interaction between shopping and sport activities, while enhancing an harmonious people flow through the city.
3rd PRIZE
Team zaas: Ayça Taylan, Nail Egemen Yerce, Ege Barkın Tekkökoğlu, Ibrahim Beqiri, Nur Gülgör, Özgür Bulut Gümrükcü
Inspired by the surrounding Alps, the buildings of the sport citadel create their own topography and blend into the natural local scene. As people move through the citadel, they drift, climb and traverse the terrain, as well as the architecture. From a swampland to a new sport citadel that will host athletes, different sportspeople and residents from all ages, this complex aims to bring and host “movement and continuity” in unity with the nature.
