Saying a final goodbye is never easy. Farewell is a painful and personal gesture. Thus, the design of the cemetery must respond in a consoling and sensitive way. Architects, Landscapers, Urban planners, students and enthusiasts are called to search for a new creative design approach, and interesting innovative environmentally friendly ideas for green spaces, and submit designs for a sustainable cemetery located in Anfeh, Lebanon. The new cemetery would need to include facilities for a small chapel, and a reception hall for condolences.

Anfeh, a small town in northern Lebanon, had witnessed a major tourist boom in recent years, ranking it among the top tourist destinations in Lebanon. The existing cemetery is now located at the entrance of the main tourist attraction of the town […] It has no place left for future expansion. With a fast growing population, the need for a new cemetery emerged.

For the Anfeh new cemetery competition, Ctrl Act Design competition organizers have partnered with the order of engineers and architects of Tripoli, […] This competition is also endorsed by the Greek orthodox Archbishopric of Tripoli, the parish of Anfeh, and the municipality of Anfeh.

Architects, Landscapers, Urban planners, students and enthusiasts are called to search for a new creative design approach, and interesting and innovative environmental friendly ideas and technologies for green spaces, and submit designs for a cemetery that would be located at the south east part of the town.

The winning design will be put forward for construction, so it should strike a balance of practical ideas and a creative design that is sustainable, unique, and in keeping with the landscape and the sensitivity of the project, and most importantly respecting the Greek orthodox church values.
