The Roseville Downtown Development Authority announces an architectural and urban design competition “The Pavilion @ Utica Junction”. The competition calls for a reinvention of Roseville’s downtown district and town center plan through community engagement.
The competition seeks students and professionals to submit design proposals for a pavilion and community gathering space on a city owned property on Utica Road near Gratiot Avenue in Roseville, MI.
Final registration for the competition is on March 22nd, 2017. Projects must be completed by March 28th, 2017 with winners announced on March 30th, 2017. A colloquium will be held on April 12th, 2017 to showcase all competition designs.
The DDA vision is “To revitalize and sustain long term economic stability for downtown businesses and provide an attractive place to shop, live and work while enhancing the arts and historic identity of Roseville. The competition aims to create a place where both residents and visitors alike could seek out to congregate for events, leisure, and play. A place that will breathe new life into our beloved downtown district. A place that is uniquely ours.
The DDA is dedicated to preserving history, but we also feel that this competition offers us the opportunity to write a new chapter in our city’s history. A chapter that isn’t determined by what has been, but by what could be.
It is for these reasons that the DDA has decided to reach out and request design submissions for a new community gathering space and pavilion for our downtown area. We strongly encourage creativity and boldness, but must give the caveat that we seek to build this project, and therefore it must be feasible financially and logistically.
We wish all participants the best of luck and look forward to reviewing your designs!
