The aim of the “WAR CITIES – Utopian and Dystopian Visions” competition is to develop one image that represents the built environment in a war scenario. The participants are asked to create one image that, going beyond the aesthetic, is able to sharply communicate a strong vision of a war scenario. To do so, designers are asked to envision two scenarios in the same image – half showing a dystopian future, where war is an everyday reality, and the other half a utopian vision, where the world is at constant peace.

TerraViva Competitions launches SILOS BUENOS AIRES, a new architecture competition that aims to rehabilitate the abandoned Silos from Puerto Madero in a creative and unconventional way. Prizes up to 6.000 € will be awarded to the winners selected by an international jury panel composed by, among others, Giancarlo Mazzanti (El Equipo Mazzanti), He Jianxiang (O-Office Architects), Ilse Cárdenas (Palma), Juan Lucas Young (Sauerbruch Hutton);
The old infrastructural facilities of Puerto Madero, witnesses of a time when Argentina was considered “The Granary of the World”, are now part of the contemporary city and are perfectly integrated into the new urban skyline of Buenos Aires. Only a few port structures of extraordinary heritage value have remained intact, and without a doubt the most fascinating still standing ones are the “Silos de la Junta Nacional de Granos”.

Regeneration is the process of replacing or restoring damaged or missing components in a system i.e. spiritual renewal or revival; which can be seen in nature inspiring contemporary artists, architects in their works. For example, the Millennium Dome and the 2012 Olympic Park were developed to stimulate growth and bring back into use vacant, brownfield, and contaminated sites that were seen as holding back the development of their surrounding areas. Such projects contributed in particular to the radical reshaping of East London‘s physical landscape.
