The most basic, uncontroversial manifestation of beauty is the beauty of the natural world. Nature is the canvas on which geology, climate, time and science have painted all kinds of vistas and landscapes. Most surreal and dramatic imaginations of man are found to be already existing in the natural ecosystem. The Wave is one such surreal looking sandstone rock formation on the slopes of Coyote Buttes in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness near the Arizona-Utah border. Continue reading

In 1600 the local priest, Padre Antonio de Andrade, travelled and studied throughout Europe and India, before eventually crossing the Himalayas into Tibet. There, as one of the first Europeans to enter Tibet, he opened orphanages and spread the messages of his faith, even converting the Tibetian royal family to Catholicism. Continue reading

Agenda>>> In this unprecedented moment of global crisis, we have the opportunity to collectively rethink the values, agendas and practices guiding the design of our built environments. In this competition, we ask you to come up with visionary concepts for an isolation ward in a quarantine facility, to help subdue the effects of the outbreak on existing infrastructure. Most existing hospitals are not equipped to handle a pandemic outbreak, hence we must come up with temporary solutions to ensure that suspected victims are isolated and not infected within the facility. The displaced and detained population must also be contained in a facility to ensure they are not infected and may be sheltered until provisions are made for them to return home. Continue reading

Our home will always be the place for which we feel the deepest affection, no matter where we are. Home is our ‘little world’ where we dream of getting condensed after a hard day at work.’ Home is the place where we desire to be after a long vacation, to be able to feel the warmth of the walls surrounding us.  Home is a very important link between a man and his idea of safety. It is the envelope that represents privacy, comfort and stability in our lives. It is that one place of permanence and consistency where we can ‘slow’ down and shield ourselves from the onslaught of a fast, chaotic world. Continue reading
