“Graduation Projects that converse with the world, Graduation is not the end but the new chapter”. TEAM20 focuses on the graduation projects and aim to give students a platform for their unique voices in terms of architecture, urban and rural development, built environment issues and in general, man-land relationship. Graduation projects can be seen as architecture graduates’ accumulation of efforts throughout their academic years. The process involves deciding the topic, choosing base, investigation to proposing a solution; students have to overcome many obstacles to complete the project. Overview: Emotions, Architecture, Opioids seeks to explore the emotional impact of architecture: how the built environment can make people feel and behave in certain ways – similar to art or music. At the same time, the brief asks participants to consider the ongoing opioid crisis in the United States, and how architecture can be used to solve problems both for the individual and for society as a whole. The goal of the competition is to present an idea that combines opioid treatment through methadone distribution with ways to combat stigma relating to drug dependency, located at a site in Venice, Los Angeles. As the world urbanizes, the challenge to manage waste becomes more acute, as more people means more garbage. While large cities are struggling with their waste management strategies, people of Manshiyat Naser are mastering the ‘resist throwaway culture’. The Zabaleen -a derogatory term for garbage pickers, collects waste from the Egyptian capital, Cairo and carry it back to the neighborhood. It is remarkable to see that the Zabaleen recycles almost 90% of the collected garbage.
