The main objective of the competition is to select the best design concept for Splaiul Unirii, in the area between the Marasesti bridge and the Mihai Bravu bridge, in order to create a vibrant public space, addressed to the increasing number of users and an attractive context for a quality urban development of the area. The meaning of this contest derives from the need to reconsider the presence of River Someşul Mic in the future development of the city as a result of insufficient recognition of the present uses of the river’s potential for the city, its inhabitants and visitors. The specific complexity implied by the relationship of the city with the “Someş of the future” in a long-term perspective determined the initiation to organize this competition aimed at valuing the benefits that this river brings to the city by conceptual reshaping of the waterfront, highlighting its landscape and ecological value and, at the same time, identifying the vocation of this natural city axis to transform the public spaces which it crosses by developing specific functions in the neighborhood of the watercourse. The iMapp Bucharest 2017 Video Mapping Competition is jointly organized by the Municipality of Bucharest, Creart – Center for Creation, Art and Tradition of the Municipality of Bucharest as the Producer, Maxin10sity Ltd. as the Art Curator and 360 Revolution Srl as Technical Provider henceforth collectively referred to as the Organizer. We are inviting international artists to create 4 minute 30 second long videomapped animations to the theme of “Above and Beyond” adapted to the façade of Palace of Parliament, Bucharest, Romania using and enhancing the architecture, and accompanied by music. The reasoning behind this Competition is the opportunity of extending the current Park, in terms of capitalisation of the territory and from a functional perspective as well. Thus, it would be possible to develop new areas intended to assume novel, modern functions related to the Open-Air Ethnographic Park, which at this moment works as a museum (cultural heritage objects located within premises reproducing the rural landscape specific to different areas, specific visiting hours, guided tours, restricted access to protected areas, preserved premises etc.).
