December 16 2021, Super Typhoon Rai, locally known as Typhoon Odette, made landfall in the Philippines. The storm was unexpectedly powerful, undergoing what is called “rapid intensification” the day before making landfall, which is becoming characteristic of tropical storms occurring in our warming climate. With winds of up to 195 km/h and gusts of 260 km/h, the storm was comparable to a category five hurricane when it hit.

Finding sustenance during prehistoric times that didn’t involve moving from one place to another, hunting and getting to settle down in one place is how agriculture started as a practice. It has been the key source of a region’ dietary needs other than meat. Farming practice maintained equilibrium back when the population was not a huge issue, but it has been stumbling in many ways now.

The focus of this architecture competition is to blend the facility’s exteriors with the cityscape but make the interiors disconnected from the city or even reality. The built form must be able to connect with the people, through its form, layout or spaces. Sustainable strategies must be employed to create a pure and natural environment inside the centre. The material palette must be selected consciously to suit the needs of the comfort of the occupants and aid a calm ambience for meditation activity. Noise must be managed for silent interior spaces.

With the »District of the Generations«, the city of Schorndorf, a medium-sized center with about 40,000 inhabitants in the Rems-Murr district, is planning an urban development extension of the »suburb« to the north of the train station. The goal is to develop a dense neighbourhood where multiple generations can come together to live, work, and care for one another. The core of the plan is the 1.5 hectare site of the former construction and municipal depot. Proximity to the city, good quality of life, and a strong sense of community should be created in the new district through common living spaces, as well as through the combination of public areas and diverse options for local infrastructure, education, leisure, and culture. The project managers are intentionally focusing on resource-saving, low-emission energy and material concepts. The area should be designed to have low vehicle traffic, with a focus on public local transportation and spaces for sharing services and deliveries.

Presentation skills are just as important as designing; one of the best mediums to present your architectural designs is through rendering.
Architectural rendering aims to create life-like experiences of the buildings before they are built. Rendering aids the designer to convey his or her ideas, an image that represents the designers’ imagination most realistically. Create one rendered architectural graphic design that says it all. As this competition aims at exploring and understanding rendering (a medium of conveying designs) to an unimaginable extent, so you are free to choose the location, and scale of the residential project.

Vision is the primary sense that is employed in architecture. The form, textures, colour, the aesthetics, are all captured through the light in the space. Light, in its raw form, paints a picture guiding the journey of the user and their well-being. Light has the power to influence our emotions, cognition and perception of a space. The effective use of light in any design can elevate its spatial experience. Light and shadows can create dynamism in a static setting. The depth perception is altered with various elements and the imaginative use of light in spaces can increase the interaction between space and its users.

The Museum of Outdoor Arts (MOA) in Englewood, CO seeks conceptual design proposals for its Design and Build Competition from art, architecture, design and other creatively focused USA based collegiate students, teams, and/or classes. This year’s theme is “Sanctuary Continental” and submissions should address the challenge of designing a sanctuary / pavilion like structure for one of the seven continents of the world, primarily utilizing local materials. The design should utilize architecture, landscape architecture, and/or sculpture/installation as a solution while considering environmental impact and sustainability in use of materials. Furthermore, the design should relate to the selected continent in some way and at least 51% of the materials used for the conceptual design should be native to the selected location. Contestant’s designs will need to respond with their conceptual project under the premise that the structure will be utilized by the general public in a publicly accessible setting.
