Challenge: to design a floating house, which can be incorporated in the Self-Sufficient Eco Village Competition.

A successful design will demonstrate how the specifics of the site have been considered, including the rise and fall of the water and how this will be achieved without stopping the flooding and therefore impacting the ecology of the landscape. Continue reading

Challenge: The Town Hall should contain a communal, multifunctional space, an information/visitor point and a small cafe.

The idea of this competition is to create a unique, site-specific design that responds to this special setting and the natural changes that occur within.

The building will be made up of a communal, multifunctional space capable of hosting markets, school groups, small theatre and music productions and political and cultural gatherings, as well as a variety of other community interest activities.

Challenge: to design a self-sufficient eco village in the protected wetlands of Empordà.

This design challenge asks for a fully self-sustaining eco village that will sit peacefully within the site and allow both humans and nature to share the same space and revolutionises the way we live – providing a fully independent and minimal impact lifestyle, while retaining the comforts and technologies of modern day life.

El Pantà de Sau is one of the most prominent features of its kind across the whole of Spain. The valley in which it lies was home to the small village of Sant Romà de Sau which is now submerged beneath the reservoir, apart from the Church steeple, which is still visible when the water level is low. The reservoir is one of many that provides water for Catalonia’s Capital city, Barcelona and is therefore of huge importance to the area. Continue reading
