Since 2020, the Arc. Eddy Eguavoen Foundation has held two competitions that aim to bring architects, architecture students and architectural designers together to design solutions for the Lagos context.

For the third annual competition, we wanted to focus on another issue that affects all Lagosians on at least a yearly basis, with some experiencing this much more frequently, this issue being flooding.

Arclif will be conducting online thesis competition for a month starting from 15th November 2021 till 15th December for B. Arch students and architects. Arclif.com, leading online architectural platform will organise online thesis awards AITA 2021 to honour the best talent in the architecture and design industry. The registration for innovative online thesis competition will be open from 15th November 2021 to 15th December 2021. Submission will be closed on 20th December 2021. The shortlisted entries for finals will be announced on 31st December 2021 and the final winner of the competition will be announced on 10th January 2022.

The intent of this competition is to solicit design ideas for affordable, carbon positive housing. Designers should consider replicability of their approach in multiple neighborhoods, cities, and/or countries. Program size could range from a micro-home to a tall building depending on the select context or solution. There are no restrictions in regard to program or size. Participants are encouraged to look beyond conventional solutions and consider resiliency in strategies as well.

ACA’s 8th International Design Competition 2021 with the theme, ‘MONADIC ARCHITECTURE’, an attempt to investigate design outcomes through reintroducing Monadic / Modular architecture in the contemporary domain as an undeniable answer to meet some the rural and urban building needs. IDC 2021 attempts to inculcate this need of the future and encourage young minds to embrace this method of design evolution. The competition entails the submission of a design proposal that involves the repetition of a single module to create space and form. The building typology can range from housing to schools to budget resorts and office complexes. The proposal must address a solution to a specific problem in their country of origin.

The program introduces a number of overlapping themes or ideas to consider. The primary task is to create a boundary and threshold between the buildable portion of the protected historic cave area. Conceptually it is a boundary between the “present day suburban condition” and the interior protected cave or “deep time” of the Pleistocene epoch (ice age). This is both a literal and conceptual boundary experience. Consider the experience of going back in time 20,000 years or so.
