The aim of this International Competition is to design a new Contemporary Footbridge in the docks area of Dublin over the River Liffey. 

The architecture of this new structure should reflect contemporary design tendencies. The proposal must not only attend to the specific function but the design should also take into consideration the urban insertion and impact geared towards creating a new architectural symbol for the city.

This competition hopes to achieve the following:
– Encourage and reward design excellence between architecture and engineering.
– Research, respond to and highlight the unique aspects of designing an original footbridge.
– To generate the discussion of ideas regarding the functionality of bridges in relation with art and sculpture.
– Encourage the employment of sustainable design in all aspects of the proposal.

PROGRAM AND SPACE USE
The program for this Competition to design a new Contemporary Footbridge over River Liffey with a minimum span of 130m and 3m wide should clearly include the following in the design proposal:
_Pedestrian bridge: a 130m long by 3m wide minimum over the river Liffey
_Wifi Hotspot / Hub
_Mobile Device Charging Points
_Bicycle Parking Station with racks for at least 100 bicycle distributed on both docks banks

COMPETITION STRUCTURE
This is a single stage Competition with the aim of identifying the most appropriate proposal, which best satisfies the general and specific objectives of the contest.

ELIGIBILITY

Architects, Architecture Graduated, Engineers and Students. Interdisciplinary teams are also encouraged to enter the Competition.

Submissions can be the work of an individual or a group up to 4 members and there is no age limit.

_Start of Competition and Early Bird Registration – 15^th March to 07^th April 2016

_Standard Registration – 08^st April 2016 to 02^st June 2016

_Late Registration – 03^nd June to 21^st June 2016

_Deadline for Questions – 27^th May 2016

_Closing Date for Submissions – 21^st June 2016

_Jury Evaluation – 22^nd June – 12th July 2016

_Announcement of Winners and Publication at www.ac-ca.org – 14^th July 2016

PRIZES

Winning participants will receive prizes totaling US$ 5,000 with the distribution as follows:

1^st PRIZE: US$ 3,000 (THREE THOUSAND US DOLLARS)

2^nd PRIZE: US$ 1,500 (ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED US DOLLARS)

3^rd PRIZE: US$ 500 (FIVE HUNDRED US DOLLARS)
