The third edition of the Paradyż Designers competition is ahead of us. This time, Ceramika Paradyż is launching an international edition with Jürgen Mayer H. as the chairman of the jury. Designers, architects, and students of artistic disciplines will compete in several categories related to designing spaces using large-format TRI-D sintered stones. The prize pool is 42,000 EURO, including the opportunity to travel to Milan for Salone del Mobile.
This year’s edition is exceptional for several reasons. The international reach of the competition is reflected in the composition of the jury, chaired by Jürgen Mayer H.,
a globally renowned architect and artist. In addition to attractive financial prizes, the authors of the best works will have the opportunity to attend one of the most anticipated events in the field of design – Salone del Mobile in April 2024.
The competition jury chairman is the founder of the renowned Berlin-based J. MAYER H. studio, known for its casual, almost sculptural approach to form and bold implementation of new technologies in building structures. Significant support in the evaluation of submitted competition entries will be provided by David Basulto,
a recognized architect who has also worked as a curator at many architectural biennials and has been a jury member in numerous industry competitions. He is also the founder and editor-in-chief of ArchDaily, one of the most visited architecture-focused websites in the world.
The winners will also be selected by Didier Faustino (a world-renowned architect and artist focusing on the relationship between space, form, and body), Agnieszka Kalinowska-Sołtys (architect and president of the Association of Polish Architects), Oskar Zięta (architect and artist known as a sculptor 4.0, the author of an innovative method of forming steel by internal pressure called FiDU), Ewa P. Porębska (an architect by education, curator, architecture critic, and editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine “Architektura-Murator”), Szymon Hanczar (architect and artist, graduate of the Faculty of Interior Architecture and Industrial Design at the Wrocław Academy of Fine Arts and a lecturer at the same university), Przemo Łukasik (architect and founder of the design studio medusagroup), Magdalena Federowicz-Boule (architect, president, and director of the Tremend architectural studio), Jo Jurga (Dr. Joanna Jurga professionally involved in space and product design, innovator, and specialist in security-oriented design), Aldona Chudzicka (in Ceramika Paradyż, she holds the position of Product Development Director). Alek Pluta from Nomadd Studio, who won first place in the previous edition of the competition with the “Pottery Workshop” project, is also a member of the jury.
The substantive curator of Paradyż Designers is Marcin Szczelina, an architecture critic and curator. He is the creator and editor-in-chief of the Architecture Snob magazine, an independent expert of the prestigious European Mies van der Rohe Award. He is also an expert in the Climate Leadership Programme under the auspices of the UN Environment Programme.
Ceramika Paradyż is one of the few companies in the world producing large-format TRI-D sintered stones using innovative technology that allows achieving the effect of colorful “veins” throughout the cross-section of the plate. Various sintered structures, imitating natural raw materials, offer unlimited design possibilities in any style, from classic to modern minimalism.
And it is precisely this beautiful and functional material that is the subject of the competition participants’ projects. The main task is to create a 3D graphic arrangement of space using large-format TRI-D sintered stones. The total prize pool amounts to over 42,000 EURO.
The competition was inaugurated during a conference at the Warsaw Home & Contract fair on November 8, 2023. The competition website and project submission form will launch on November 13, 2023. Entries must be submitted by February 29, 2024. The winners of the third edition of the Paradyż Designers competition will be announced at the end of March 2024.
