The Spirala Ecological Village is an intentional community set amidst the beautiful natural backdrop of Northern Portugal. It is a pioneering project focused on self-development and communion with nature. Founders Nitzan and Romy from Israel named their community after the inspiration of the spiral – ‘spirala’ in Hebrew – which exists everywhere, starting from the shape of vast galaxies, right down to the spirals of our very own DNA.
The Spirala Community Home competition is tasking participants with creating a central structure to act as the heart of the community: a space where residents can live, learn, connect and celebrate together. The community home should have enough room to accommodate a 50-person sharing circle or a group of up to 70 people dancing, socialising, and performing.

As winning designs will be put forward for consideration for construction, the founders of the ecological village are asking participants to offer solutions that will best serve the various needs of the community, while also being a prolific example of green building practices and sustainable design.

The Spirala Community Home competition is open until April 29, 2021 with winners of the 10,000€ prize fund to be announced on July 15, 2021.
