Challenge: to design a self-sufficient eco village in the protected wetlands of Empordà. This design challenge asks for a fully self-sustaining eco village that will sit peacefully within the site and allow both humans and nature to share the same space and revolutionises the way we live – providing a fully independent and minimal impact lifestyle, while retaining the comforts and technologies of modern day life.
The challenge is to work with this incredible landscape to produce lightweight and undetectable buildings that bond humans and nature. We expect to see environmentally-conscious structures that
set a precedent for what sustainable architecture should look like. We expect you to consider every aspect of the design and building process: the materials to be used, their sourcing, how they will be taken to the site, how the buildings will be erected without disturbing the local nature, how the village will be self-sustaining, how the village will benefit the surrounding nature, etc.
