Culture, art, beauty.

Every part of the world has extraordinary stories to tell. Yet, there are places that history chose as collective heritage, places where events and civilizations left their unique mark on the history of humanity.

Italy and Egypt are two of these places.

Pharaohs and the Nile on one hand, the myth of Rome and the Renaissance on the other. It is difficult to provide a synthesis of two nations that used to host extremely refined social organizations in ancient times building monuments that still move and astonish with their breathtaking magnificence.

Their tradition of art and beauty is not confined to the past, though. Quite the opposite: to this day, it continues to express itself in a thriving creative present.

Salone del Mobile in Milan is the key event of the world of design. Likewise, in Cairo, an exuberant Design Week sets itself as a moment of reflection to make Egypt the stage of international design. The Italian government wishes to be part of this moment by building a bridge between the two cultures and encouraging exchange and debate between young generations of creative talents.

This is how Eterna Bellezza was born. This is the competition promoted by the Italian embassy in Cairo to detect and enhance the talent of young Italian and Egyptian designers providing them with a prestigious showcase in the context of both the Italian and Egyptian Design Week.

Eterna Bellezza requires young designers to design objects inspired by a trait that the Egyptian and Italian creative expression share: the ambition to eternity, the desire to create something that goes beyond time and trends and is timelessly fascinating.

This is Eterna Bellezza’s aim: shaping matter in order to generate timeless objects to become part of people’s imagination and- why not? – go down in history exactly as the travertine of the Colosseum or the granite of the pyramids.

YAC and the Italian Embassy in Cairo thank all architects who will take up this challenge.
