The City of Tampere, Finland, is organising an open international ideas competition regarding the Hiedanranta city district. In the Hiedanranta international ideas competition, the competitors are tasked with designing a comprehensive plan for the area on the conceptual level – a vision for the future of the area. The plan should present a high-quality area, both functionally and in terms of the cityscape. In the coming years, the area’s development will be steered based on the material generated as a result of the competition.

The competition is open to natural and juridical persons from all countries. The hope is for the participants to form design teams with diverse expertise in land use, architecture and landscape architecture, as well as traffic engineering, community development, construction and energy engineering, and city vitality. A total of EUR 220,000 is handed out in prizes. The first prize is EUR 110,000, and the rest is awarded to runners-up and used to pay for the use of other commendable ideas.

ELIGIBILITY

The competition is open to natural and juridical persons from all countries. The hope is for the participants to form design teams with diverse expertise in land use, architecture and landscape architecture, as well as traffic engineering, community development, construction and energy engineering, and city vitality.

The competitors are entitled to request additional information regarding the programme. The questions shall be submitted anonymously and emailed in Finnish or English to hiedanranta@tampere.fi. The submission deadline for the questions is 26 May 2016. These questions, and those presented at the competition seminar, as well as the jury’s replies to the questions, will be published on the competition website at www.tampere.fi/hiedanranta by 16 June 2016. The competition organiser reserves the right to complement and update the appended material published on the website up until this date.
